    ordering hids

I shopped around but I need one last info bit before I pull the trigger

    these are 35w set.

is a 50w set going to be brighter and better? what comes on new cars or new bmws.
I feel confident that these are reliable, but because they are small they are low wattage.

If I need higher wattage, show me the cheapest good ones please.

I bought 35w because I didn't want to be that guy blinding everyone.
Upon installation I frowned; it wasn't bright enough at all.
Sold them, and bought 55w and was pleased.

This is a completely different manufacture though.

ok thats good enough now I need a cheap 55w set to compare.

      and these i just found

ok quick, one is in taiwan. which is better? definitely seems that for 45$ the 55w taiwan kit is worth it if its actually brighter.

Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time on cheap HIDs.

              which of these are cheap?

actually all of these are the grade above the cheapest ones, the xentec ones.

the vvme ones claim to be AC bulbs so those are the tier up

ya it started out at 32$ now with relays and 55w its up to 70. And youd rather spend 150$. I think i need to go for either the 38$ ones or cancel

                    thanks.

Someone in this forum said you do so im lost.

So you think the vvme for 52, that has everytihng then. 55w.

Im not sure if AC is necessary I need to look it up.

Finally got some feedback that oem bmw, for 2012, xenon headlights are 35 watts. charge 800 for them also. I dont want brighter than new that seems obnoxious. gonna get me pulled over.

the very first set I showed, the 35w g4 ( stands for generation 4) set is AC bulbs. All of these are g4 bulbs. Ive seen the DC bulbs on amazon but those arent these at all so its irelevant. You dont want those dc sets they will say offroad on them.
About to buy the g4 for 38.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree on that one. Just search for people having problems with flickering HIDs or with only one side firing and you'll find that they solved their issues by running a relay harness.

The factory fuse is 7.5 amps and relay harnesses have 30+ amp fuses. Consider that fuses are meant to protect your wiring and figure it out yourself.

I guess the last 6 years of having a 55w kit for both fogs and lows means im wrong :p

I havent had them flicker or blow any fuses. The quality of the chinese kits, though.....

Also - a smaller fuse is better for protecting your wiring, not a bigger one. if you're going to make that argument at least have a leg to stand on. Seeing how my 7.5 amp fuse has worked great, going to a 30 amp fuse would make zero sense.

I don't think we're looking at it the same way....

If BMW determined that headlight wiring needed to be limited to 7.5 amps then you'd assume that it wasn't safe to subject it to 30+ amps. The harnesses are much higher gague than stock headlight wiring and don't require the additional protection.

                          What kit are you running?

of course not. but you're presupposing that an HID kit uses 30 amps - obviously it does not, or I'd be blowing fuses left and right. since I have such a small fuse, and it's not blowing, I really don't need to worry about my wiring, because if it did for some reason suddenly demand 30 amps, the 7.5 amp fuse would blow before any wiring was damaged.

all it says is they're oversizing the fuses in most HID kits to make you feel safe, when in fact it's less safe than a fuse that's sized just right.

mine's an old DDM kit, soon to be replaced by a kit from the retrofit source (just arrived today in fact).

Nando, is absolutely correct. There is NO need for a 30 amp fuse on HIDs. If the relay harness fixed the flickering then the stock harness was likely damaged to begin with, and very well may have been the cause of the owner wanting to replace the stock lights in the first place.
