    What's the brightest HIDs?

I don't care about road legal (it's for the race car), I just want the brightest lights I can put in. Recommendations?

I read something about 85w somewhere. Not sure if that would start frying wires and stuff though

55 watt kits with 4300K or 5000K should do the trick. Must have projectors. A projector upgrade might even give you more output.

If your looking for external lights I.E. baja then the Hella Rallye lights are brighter than anything else I've seen mounted to a car.

        Rallye 4000

Otherwise, Greg is correct. A good quality 55w ballast in a quality projector will do very well.

ok then compare a projecterless hid ( like almost all e30 hid users are)

          how bright is that?

I dont think im getting projectors Im just putting bulbs in my headlights with ballasts.

Should I have gotten 50 watt ones for that purpose?

like bmw hid systems they are 35 watts, with projectors.

how will it compare to regular 9006 bulbs ( which are worthless)

The DDM 55w Raptor kits fit the bill for a great price, I've had many sets.

ok an ellipsoid is a projector.

essentially. Not made for an hid projector but thats what it is.

took me a while to put it together.

DDM 55w's are arguably the best bang for the buck HID's

I got sealed beams. I never really looked at it but I guess I can't put better bulbs in there.

I have a set of KC Smileys I'm going to mount to the front valence.

Use HID only with ellipsoid or projectors. sealed beams project light everywhere.

I finally did the right research

I got confused by the term ellipsoid, and smiley vs projectors.

The main difference is a projector has an auto leveler. a projector is an ellipsoid with an automatic aimer.

smiley is an older equivelent of an angel eye running light. but the ellipsoid is the same.

Nothing Ive found shows me my hids are any less bright than ones in projectors.

if you dont have a projector or a ellipsoid, you have a reflector which will shoot the light in a flashlight beam into oncoming traffic.

In the e30, there are projectors in the lows but not in the highs( in mine and all the ones ive seen) dont put the 9005 hids in the brights.
