What HID set up would you recommend?

this is where I was most likely going to buy mine from... But questions I had for those who have done this:

    What bulb size? 9006/HB4 correct?
    35w or 55w?

I had 55w 6000k, but they were too blue-ish for my taste so I went back to my stockies.
    and now

i had US ellips with 9006, i got me a 4500k with 35w, has the perfect color, white with a slight hint of blue like you see in the new BMWs and is bright enough in my point of view

        55w.

        I bought 35w thinking 55w was overkill.
I 360'd that thought completely upon installation, sold the 35w's, and bought 55w's.

          Thanks.

But the bulb doesn't get to hot affecting the harness or housing?

But the 9006 is right bulb?

for us ellipsoid low beams, 9006 is the correct bulb.

in 2-3 years you'll need to replace your bulbs, and they'll be half as bright as a 35w kit would have been in the same timeframe.

in reality, 55w HIDs don't exist. they use the same bulb and drive it with 50% more power. of course, this means they have a much shorter lifespan.

I just replaced my 55w kit (from 2007) with a 35w version, and the 35w kit is BRIGHTER than my old one was.

Probably. Idk. I haven't had the luxury to keep mine that long due to some BS.

My friend with the same kit has though. One bulb broke in a year so he replaced just that one. A year later, the OLDER bulb is more white looking with a less blue hue to it compared to the newer one, so I guess you have some reasoning in there. FWIW of course.

H1? Isnt that for the fog lights? 9006 /hb4 is low beam, I have us elips for now... But I will be getting smilies so should I just wait til I get smilies?

foglights are H3. Lots of online places say late fogs are h1, but they're wrong.

I recomend 4300k for the color. or possibly 5000k. White is the best looking hid color by far and the blue look now looks fake to me.

I got the 6000k light blue ones btw. I just didnt think about it before I ordered.

I got a cheap chinese set of hids. they work fine.

i like the miromoto bulbs better.

55w will run whiter at the same temp IIRC, so do 55w @ 6000 or 35W at 5000. I've had the 55w/6k for 3-4 years now and they've been flawless.

                              I run the 35w 4300k H1 kit found here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

These guys know what they are doing and the kits they sell aren't the cheap ass ones like DDM (which I have read more people having problems than anything else). To me, I would rather pay for a quality product rather than some cheap kit that needs to be replaced 3 times before I get working components.

I prefer 35w stuff at 4300K. That is what comes standard on every production xenon system. I see just fine at night and personally I wouldn't want the heat the 55w puts the bulb at, especially with what that can do to the reflector bowl over time (chrome coating turns brown). I have bench tested the 35w and that gets PLENTY hot.

If you want a purple/blue tinge, there are other things you can do to the projector to get that towards the cutoff, without having the extreme ricer look throughout the entire light output of the 5000k and up bulbs.
