    hid problem....

I recently bought a set of depo smileys...
installed an hid kit on them...my problem is when I turn the headlights they don't stay on, sometimes one stays on, sometimes the both shut off....

it takes me about 6 tries for them to stay on and warm up, also noticed at times either one flickers, went back to where I bought them they gave me new bulbs...still the same thing..
contacts are good, no blown fuses. anything I can check? ballasts are good

Could be a faulty ballast. Get new ballasts.

Thanks for the reply bob. I'll try to source some good ballast. The ones I got are on a budget once I fix my car I'll get good ones. For now I'll go change the ballast see what's up

Happened to a buddy. His remedy was to rev a bit to give it more juice. Weird.

            Maybe old headlight relays.

Ok just tried that and I revved the car and lights got brighter?
They get brighter when I drive. If I stop or at idle they aren't as bright. I'll check those relays

you might have the same prob he did. He ended up replacing alternator and all was great.

it sounds like something with the alternator. the ballast may not be getting enough juice. id go get your battery and alternator tested.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

if you swap in regular non-hid bulbs is there still a problem?

lights getting brighter with higher rpm seems to be a voltage drop issue. check all your electrical connections that have to do with your battery. make sure they're clean(no corrosion) and tightened down.

if issue still occurs then like ^^spike68 said, i would get the battery and alternator tested to ensure they are performing correctly.

brand new battery, I bought it 3 months ago...had the alternator tested when i bought a battery...so they have been working fine (yesterday and today) but l have the issue with turning them on, sometimes one turns on either side, I don't have regular h1 bulbs, but didn't have a problem with my ellips, or sealed beams...will get some regular h1 bulbs this week and see if I still have the same problem...

thanks for the input...its just concerning....
