Euro non' smiley Vs. Euro smileys

Light right in front of you isnt a good thing anyway. Im not really certain what the smile does because if you block it off with your hand the amount of light is negligible anyway. If you see the lights on you cant even see any light coming out of them.

yeah matt had the smileys and changed to the euro ellips for a less cluttered look if I remember right

Putting more light directly in front of you means its bright real close. That causes your pupils to narrow. While that is good for the depth of field it means you can take in less ambient light. In areas around the periphery of the light and beyond it all appears darker.

Its the same reason you cant see stars in a city, they are still there its just that there is too much light close to you.

Its also the same reason for our dull orange/red displays and dimming mirrors. Less low energy light forces the pupils to dilate to see it and that means they take in all sorts of light that would be otherwise undetectable.

That is assuming all the light was coming from the same focii. Here its reflected off the rear through a diffused part of the reflector and the other is coming directly out through a lense. The only way your flashlight scenario would apply is if the light coming out of the smile was coming out in the same manner as the eye. It isnt and even if it was it would only account for a minute fraction of the output. Ive seen them side by side and the patterns are identical.

Smokes make no difference, other than the color of the blocking plate they are identical to the regular smileys.

he's talkin out his ass...why would the german engineers replace the euro ellips w/ smileys if they were not as good as the ellips? its not like they are cheaper to make...like how the stupid US went back to sealded beams.

My guess is that they wanted smileys so that the lights would be more visible to other people. Instead of having all of the light coming out of the middle of the ellipsoid, they added a little smiley so that more of the light is visible to others. So basicly, the smiley acts as a running light, instead of having the running light built in to the turn signal like the US cars.

I could be completely wrong though...

Bring some fucking evidence before you accuse me of "talking out my ass" you petulant child. Right now it appears you dont know what the fuck you are talking about since ellipsoids are a far cry from a simple flashlight.

Having seen both in identical setups the patterns are the same and there is no discernable difference in output. As for the light being close to you, look it up idiot.

I dont claim to know why they did it, I just stated that they would not improve performance. +1 for the list of people who think you are a douche for that comment.
