Just bought a morimoto 5five and 4300k bulbs for US ellips. Would love to try the new EVOXR projectors, but the lens is 3". I'm looking for the best light throw. The FXR's look nice too and come in a 2.5" lens. I read a few threads here of folks trying to get a kit going but no solution just yet as far as I know.

Not quite up to par with the EVOX-R or FX-R but decent if you're interested in throw. The new MorimotoMini D2S 3.0 would be the best option for throw on a budget, unfortunately the mounts the guy makes for the H1 6.0 won't fit the 3.0 D2S.
Having done a couple retrofits before and doing lots of HID/projector research, i know that i want more performance than what the Morimoto Mini H1 6.0 can offer but im unfamiliar with the newer and full-size projectors and am somewhat shy of tearing up my Depo lights to try and fit a bigger better projector in them. So im kind of in the same boat looking for options. Hopefully SquaredMotorworks will make a mount for the D2S 3.0 in time, but for now i think they are only offering the mounts for the earlier Mini versions.
There is a DIY here on R3V that documents a retrofit of the FX-R into hella or bosch ellips. Maybe that'll help you. Keep in mind that if you do switch to an FX-R you'll need new bulbs since they take D2S bulbs and i believe the US ellips take 9006/H4... -
Nice thanks, I haven't seen that thread before. Honestly I'll settle for ease of install over performance, just want better output than the stock ellips.
I read through that entire thread as well, I'm still burnt after the 24v swap, don't want to get my hands dirty anytime soon lol I hope this phase passes soon.
Seems everyone does the retrofit in either Bosch or Hella euro ellips, should the US Hella's have the same housing/install as the euro ones? I know Bosch uses a metal housing versus plastic.Comment

If ease of install is priority then the squaredmotorworks option looks like a winner. Pretty much just bolt on and plug n play. And the output is miles better than stock e30 halogen options.
As far as whether or not the mounts work with us spec ellipsoid, not yet. They work with Bosch smileys. The depo housings are euro hella copies.Comment

After re-reading the squaredmotorworks thread it looks like a US-spec Hella mount is in development and should be released soon. So just hang on to what you've got.Comment
