Passenger Hid is blowing the fuse. Update! Figured it out sorta!

Well a few weeks ago i was driving and my passenger ddmtuning Hid flickered then went out. I ordered a new set from ddmtuning. 55w 8k same as before. Well i installed them and no luck. I check the fuses and the passenger headlight fuse is burned out. Also it has a 25amp fuse in instead of a 7.5. Something i never notived before today.

What i know is the plug will get 12v with a new fuse. The wire shows open lead when grounded to the body. The ground wire has no resistance when grounded with the body. I rechecked all of the hid wiring and everything is hooked up properly. When i turn the key and turn on the hids it just blows the fuse.

Where do i go from here? 91 318is, euro smiley conversion. Factory harness no fancy relay looms.

    UPDATE! FOUND THE PROBLEM

Well the solder melted and connected the positive and neg wires. Now why did this happen?

    there's your problem right there.

also, put the 7.5a fuse back. you don't need to swap it. it's the crummy ballasts that are blowing fuses. I've never blown a stock 7.5a fuse in 8 years of running HIDs. if you're blowing 25a fuses you're asking for a fire.

I'd recommend ballasts/bulbs from theretrofitsource.com. also, 55w HIDs are pointless - in 2 years your brightness will have dropped to almost half of a 35w kit.

Joyyyy. Thanks nando. Its bullshit because people always say ddm are reputable.

You could swap the ballasts you have to confirm. It should work with a 7.5a fuse regardless - thats good for 100 watts!

          bingo.

i feel that people (not you) seem to think that if they put in a fuse with a bigger rating they can run high current items. but what they dont realize is that the wiring is still the same.

can the stock e30 wiring even handle 25a of current??
check to make sure that your wiring is ok as well.

Yah I will be going through it. The fuse is rated to save the wiring so I'm a little ticked with the p/o.

I have DDM and been working for 5 years now. break that connection in your photo and put liquid tape over that (put a few layers on). mine was arcing across before I did.

I will try that. I just want to know how this started. The wires ohmed out just fine so I hope everything is ok. I bet the ballast is fine as well.
