free hid's... not sure if I should run them

Hi, as the title states, I have acquired a set of free HID headlamps installed in what I think are Hella H4's. The ballasts have no sticker but from what I can tell the kit is from DDM. They are pretty bright, a very white, semi blue-ish tint.

My concern is that they are too bright and crossing the douchey line. I have installed them but am worried if I should remove them in lieu of something more reasonable. But on the other hand, they're free.

Some other threads talked about how an hid retrofit in an h4 creates 'unfocused' light which scatters it every which way. Is there any way to fix that with the h4? Can I just point the light down? or should i not even bother and just try and source some smilies?

HIDs in an H4 are going to suck unless the set you have has a "hood" over the bulb. I had HIDs with a hood and they were great.. Otherwise youre going to just piss people off

Ah yes, that would explain why they're soo bright, theres no hood. hell the things are sooo bright, they're pissing me off lol. Like if i walk in front of the car and glance at them while their on, it blinds me for a couple seconds, can't imagine how driving in opposite direction would be. Im embarrassed to even drive around the neighborhood with them.

Where would one procure these hoods? would this be something that I get from ddm or is this a hella part?

Buy these and run HID projectors:

It's the only proper way of running HID's. A shield like blunt is talking about is a bandaid fix.

Oh this is great! only thing is that my headlights don't look like any of the housings shown in the picture. I'm running h4 hella's and the way they mount to the frame is via a circle holder thingy and 3 screws. I would most likely have to get a US or euro smiley to accommodate these. But these are a really great idea tho. Will def pick some up when i get a better housing.

Right now i think my best bet is for 9006 halogens in my h4's to go back to normal.

            This.

I've done a couple HID projector retrofits and they're definitely worth the time and effort. Output is amazing and you won't be blinding oncoming traffic. With the kit in that link it's pretty much plug and play.

            Or this.

I'm glad to see you care about how your lights affect other drivers.
