    Chinese LED H1 bulbs

So I saw a post in the for sale section a few months back of some LED H1 lights and the seller (cant remember who) said they worked well in the projectors. I thought that was interesting. He was asking $120 iirc which I thought was a bit ridiculous so I did a bit of searching and found a set on ebay for $55.

My set was advertised as 4500 lumen, that one is 2400 lumen, they are probably the same set. Let's be honest here, chinese manufacturers are not known for their precise measurements.

So I pulled out my ddm tuning HIDs (55w, 5000k) which were on the fritz due to shaky connections and installed these. Before I put them in the projector housings (depo euro smoked) I turned them on. Holy shit, in broad daylight I was getting blinded. I was super excited to use these at night. Well, it was a disappointment. Due to the design, with the leds being on the side, the projector had 2 semi circle bright spots but not a whole lot of light being thrown forward. What a fail. I'm sure they're brighter than standard bulbs, but they don't hold a candle to HIDs in projectors.

So I ordered a new set of ddm tuning HIDs and put the LED bulbs in my high beams. Wow, I am seriously impressed. They turn on instantly so it's good for flashing and it's like a strobe light if you keep at it. They are seriously bright. The large reflector of the high beams is perfectly suited for these bulbs and they work extremely well for this application. Although, if I were to do it again I would purchase some LED bulbs that fit inside of the back cap. The whole "ballast" box and fan that is on the back of this set is probably bullshit to make it look more powerful and like HIDs.

So that's some information, if you guys want some pics, I'll try to snap a few.

I'd like to see pics! My friend put something similar in his MK4 Jetta. Within a week one of the bulbs was dim and the ballasts were hot enough to melt the plastic where he had mounted them. Then again, it was a VW.

I've been running them for about a month now, but only a few days in the high beam location. Obviously, in the high beam location they'll see a lot less use. I didn't have any heat issues.

I was cleaning up my workbench today and found the manual, in it it lists 2000 lumens. So what I said about their extremely precise measurements seems true.
