Changing reverse light wiring harness, but...

Seems like a plug and play, but what do I need to watch out for when I change it?

I'm confused cause how does the reverse light work with just the wire, how is it triggering the reverse light is my questoin when you put it in reverse.

there's a reverse light switch screwed into the trans case (assuming manual trans)... when you put the car into reverse, the fork in the trans pushes on the switch nub, closing the circuit. polarity should not matter.

If it is a one wire setup, then the switched is grounded through the transmission. Basically the switch grounds the reverse lights on and off.
