An idea I don't think has been tried.

Well I may have a new idea, maybe not, or maybe someone else can complete my thoughts.

My license plate lights are rotted out, which I understand is a common e30 problem. This being my fourth one surprise me in the beginning.

Anyways I was going to plan on cutting out the rust and weld in replacements stamped panels. However, my brother asked why not find a slightly bigger license plate light and cut the hole to fit that.

So now.. I am trying to find an OEM BMW light that will work. It looks light the e39 light may work but I have no way of getting measurements.

Anyways I am just looking for some comments, criticism, anything negative you want, or positive advice is cool too. Measurements off other BMWs you own or your friends/family/wife/husband/etc. own are very welcome as that is what I truly need to make a purchase.

Thanks, I will post pictures of final result!

I put courtesy lights in my doors that were made for an e82 I think. Pics in my build thread. LEDs are a good idea, I did led replacement bulbs in my licence light spots.
