HIDs - can I buy a full package?

I'm looking at adding HID's to the 318. I currently have the crappy sealed-beam units which burn out often and produce very poor night vision. I do not know a lot about HIDs but am a DIY'er and can figure things out relatively easy. It seems to me as though I would need to buy a set of elipsoid headlights and THEN purchase an HID kit to install.

I'm curious if there is someone who sells an entire set of housings+HID kit in one package. I'd like to be able to just take out the sealed beams and replace them with the new units. Bada-bing badda-boom. I've searched and haven't found anything.

I did see Umnitza has a kit - has anyone used it? It doesn't mention the price with HIDs installed, so I may have to call them to find out.

I also can't find where to buy the ProLumens kits folks have talked about.

    Any help? Thanks! :pimp:

Buy a used set of Bosch or Hella euro smileys and then get a set of Apexcone 55w H1 bulbs from the group buy section here. Your total cost will be less than Umnitza and you'll have to do the same amount of work either way.

Here is the Apexcone group buy. I bought 2 sets and they're ridiculously bright...I love them.

Here is a set of Euro smoked smileys that also come with a set of Euro grills for $325 shipped. I found my set on eBay for $180 but I bought my euro grills for $69 and paid shipping on both pieces, so $325 to your door isn't bad at all.

Edit: The ones you posted were aftermarket ones with angel eyes...yuck. Buy Hella or Bosch.

Thanks! Yea, I'm not too hot about the angel eyes on E30's, but it was the only 1pc unit I could find. I can't even begin to believe that for $500 HID's can be installed.... so much different then even 3 yrs ago.

Is this Apexcone group buy mixed with Euro elips a good combination? Theres a guy on the board here selling some smoked (I need to see how much) Euro elips w/ smileys (do they effect output?) that I may pick up. I would only be worried about the HID output through smoked lenses.

If they're smoked properly they don't affect light output at all. Look in the DIY section for a great writeup by Jordan on what is involved.

I have smoked Euro smileys and an Apexcone 55w 6k HID set. They are ridiculously bright and look awesome.

$250 is way too much for an HID kit in this market

I wasn't sure about the apexcone quality (since it's so cheap), but once I got their kit my worries were put to rest.

i'm just amazed because 3 years ago or so, 35w HID kits were still $900...

i can get HID's for any1 interested for $180shipped. i have been running them on my car for about 6months with no problems. i can get them in 3000, 4300, 6000, 8000, but i dont suggest anything over 6000K.

dont know how much the Apexcone's are, if they are cheaper, then go for those!

EDIT: damn those Apexcone are cheap as hell. cant beat that price!!

You'll love them, they're crazy bright. My wife drove my E39 for the first time at night since I installed them and when she got home she said "the headlights are so bright I kept thinking the brights were on." Just for fun when I'm driving in a pack of cars I'll turn my headlights off briefly to see all their pale yellow beams and then I turn mine back on and relish in how bright and clean they are. Best of all, with projectors there is no glare, just pure focused light. Oncoming traffic hasn't flashed me once since I got them aimed correctly.
