    Sealed Beam->US Ellipsoid->Prolumen HID

    Has anyone converted from sealed beam headlights directly to US Ellipsoids with a Prolumen HID kit?

    I am looking for guidance on how to make this work without modification to the factory wiring harness.

    The headlights I intend to purchase from BMW are:
    63-12-1-385-797 (left)
    63-12-1-385-798 (right)

    and a Prolumen HID kit from the bfc group buy:

    Which bulb type should I specify for this setup?

    Do I need anything else to complete the install? Part numbers required, if any, would be greatly appreciated.

    If this has been answered before, my apologies. I did a search and everything I found was related to euro ellipsoids.

    Thanks in advance.

    Converting sealed beams to US Ellipsoids is identical to the Euro process, minus the wiring for the city lights as they aren't present on US lights.

    US Ellipsoid low beams use a 9006 bulb stock, high beams use a 9005.

    Are you buying the lights new, or are you going the JY route? If buying new, you'll want to make sure you get all the related hardware (mounting brackets, bulb wire harnesses x4, etc). The harnesses for the 9005/9006 bulbs are very easily adapted to the factory wiring for sealed beams, so there's no permanent modification to the factory stuff needed.

    I'd recommend getting the SB -> Ellip conversion done first, verifying that it works with regular halogen bulbs, and then throwing the HID kit in. It won't be any more difficult and will save you a lot of troubleshooting later on if you end up with a defective bulb/ballast/etc.

      Paul, you piss me off. How long did I go over all this with you? You will to modify the plugs to make it work, and you will have to buy the plugs.

      I showed you how I could do the whole thing with only one splice, and with HID's and Euro ellips.

      Its your money man.
