35w is plenty for them, the 55w feels like I'm being blinded by the oncoming car.

i believe you will need H1.

Ok, got everything working. Somehow I blew both high beam bulbs. Im not really sure what to think after a test drive. I guess time will tell.

Ok, so I dont mind that the low beams dont stay on when the brights are on but now the damn brights dont work. WTF, this hole HID thing is not as easy as i thought.

but in all seriousness, i just installed a DDM 35w 3k HID kit in the fogs of my E39, and they are great. slightly off topic, but they were the slim-ballasted $50 ones so it is on topic too.
