My reverse lights don't work either, Should I replace this switch or start somewhere else that's cheaper? I got the car and they don't work, however the check brake lights light is on. IS this related?

Prob not, unless it's something like your taillight panels are missing. I would start at the connector by the shift boot and jump the two pins of the connector to see if the lights come on.

It's always the switch. It's cheap and easy to replace, probably because it fails so often...

agh. So at night I noticed my reverse lights kind of randomly flash I think. After I used reverse it started just working on off and going with my brake pedal. Lots of random stuff. Now I know why they were taken out before... Sound like the switch still?

Well should I still start by buying that switch or does it sound like I have bigger problems? I just have no idea where to start looking...?

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I just fixed a similar problem and haven't seen the fix suggested yet.

Apparently, the rear light panel contacts were slightly loose (though locked down) and just needed a little cleaning.

                    Hope that helps someone.

Really? I've owned many E30s and never had the switch itself go bad. Always the wiring around it.

I'm having the same issue but I think its because I didn't use a connector and just let the wires wrap around it lol...

                        Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!
