how to and what to use to smoke tail lights?

i have been looking for how-tos to smoke the rear tail lights and have come up with a blank.
what is the best way to do them, best materials to use etc.?
i have 88 325ix, grey in color. and think the dark smoked tail lights would look great on it.

    thanks

Not sure on the tails but on my front signals I used Testors window tinting spray for models. Should be able to find it at any hobby or RC model shop.

Even though the community likes to DIY jobs, the smoked tails look great on computers but in person it's not great....

Why not save up and buy real smoked tails?

This is by far the best write up I have seen, and the results look very professional. Take your time though.

personally, i think all red tails look better, unless you have a really dark colored car, then smoked looks good too.

Or white. I think all red tails look too... red on a white car.

they make taillight paint specifically for that, that i bought it at a local speed shop. i used it and it works great. i scuffed the lights with 800 wet dry sand paper, sprayed several coats until i got the shade i wanted, the appplied 3 or 4 coats of clear. after they dried i wetsanded with qa finer paper and polished them.

i got mine done by a friend.....he used a model paint mixed with a thinner sprayed on with v thin coats with an air gun....im stoked with the result...the only thing is it that its not as glossy as the proper ones....but its the same colours....and in my eyes a box of beers is a better price than $300

I'll tell you to get the real ones if you can, because I have MHW taillights, and I couldn't be happier with them.

Best way to smoke them is with your credit card. Buy genuine MHW's and be done with it.

                            Smoked Tails

Hi guys (I say guys, becuase that is all I have seen so far, I am sure there are some other women on here somewhere) I am VERY new to this forum. NOT new to my '89 325i sedan black/black (had it 3 years), AND new to this whole wonderful world of Modifications!!! I am so excited becuase I REALLY needed another thing to spend money on!

I want to smoke my Headlights and Tails, (along with black out kidneys put a splitter on the front, eybrows, small spoiler and tint the windows)

Headlights will be first, but I am worried about the legality issues. I am a good girl, and don't need to get hassled by the police!! SO my question is...

How LEGAL are they, or AREN'T they?

I will post some pictures of LeiLa when I get home, OOOR you could check her out on the web link below. Please leave feedback though if you decide to rate her.

                            Thanks for the advice!

if you want smoked headlights, black Hella ellipsoids are the only way to go. Spray tinting headlights is a big nono. the lenses on the Hellas are not tinted, it's an optical illusion, this way you don't lose your lighting performance (and safety)

they are expensive (around $500 new from most places), but I've seen sets on ebay go for as little as $215 shipped..
