Do W123s fit into U.S. Ellipsoid highbeam housings?

I plan on replacing my sealed beams with a set of U.S. Ellipsoids. I'd like to replace the high beams with W123s and use them as fogs. Will the W123s fit in the U.S. Ellips highbeam housings?

The reason I plan on doing this is because I'm going to intall HIDs in the ellips, so I won't really need the high beams. Plus I'm going to run fog deletes in my valance.

So please, opinions on the "rice factor" aside, will the W123s fit in the U.S. Ellipsoids high beam buckets and what do I need to do to get them working? Thanks

They will fit into an E30 with sealed beam headlight brackets, not ellipsoid. Sorry.

Thanks, too bad though. Is there another way to make the highbeams on my U.S. ellips function as fogs?

No. The optics are all wrong in the highs.

i used the h4 set up so that i still have high beams and then put them on a separate switch to use them as fogs

Highs and fogs with just one bulb? How do you do this? Thanks for the help.

you can get them for cheaper from bavauto...but thats your low beam housing, a bulb goes in it and that one bulb has 2 filaments so your low beam housing is now both high and low , and then you take the 123 housing and put it where your high beam housing is and wire it to be independent,

the 123's have the flat patter like a fog lights thats why no one uses them as high beams because they dont project far

Awesome info., thanks. When I'm ready to install, I'll get the details on wiring. But in the meantime, can you tell me how complicated it is to wire the fogs indep. And are the H4s plug and play?

h4s should be plug and play depending on model, i think all sealed beams are plug and play but ellip hedlights i dont thing do...but not 100%, the easiest way is to take your fog lights, and the harness the two copper connectors should plug right in to the 123 one....but the late modle fogs i think are different, but if you do that the fogs will turn off when you put your high beams on...if thats not a big deal for you, do it that way

H4s will work in any non-elipsoid bucket. I was under the impression for some reason that you were just going to use your high beams as fogs. The 123s will work nicely.

Yeah, I originally wanted to swap in U.S. Ellips and HIDs, until I learned that I couldn't use the Ellips highs as fogs. So I'm prolly going the route Hendrixvodu suggested and keep my sealed beam buckets and swap in H4s in the lows and the W123s in the highs.

I know they won't drop into the ellipsoids buckets, but has anyone tried to custom fit them? Or else, do you think you could just swap the lenses? Thanks.

this is what i have and it works out fine. you can always get the HID conversion for the H-4 buckets for even brighter lights.

you can mod them to get them to go into ellip buckets, i think there's 3 bolts behind the w123? well drill them out on the ellip bracket. now find 9 nuts that fit that bolt. use 2 on each bolt too lock them so that there level or flush in the bucket, and then use that last bolt on the opposite side of the plastic to keep them in the bucket. loctite and washers highly recommended.
