Tailight swap possible? 86 to 89?

I've been searching on the forum and just keep getting Taillight FS threads. Can you swap in the 89 to an 86 bodystyle or are the sizes different?

    Thanks
    R

Very different sizes. You need to cut and weld metal

If you were going to cut and weld to fit the lights it should only be to fit early tails onto a late car. The early tails look way better.

does this mean that you should only switch late to early for astetics, or that you should only need to cut and weld if you switch late to early? i have access to a nice set of late euro tails and i want to know what i would actually have to do to install the units so i can wire it for rear fogs.

Either way you will have to cut and weld

just standard euros. $80 plus shipping from the UK. if you want them i can give you the guy's email.

Anyway, it looks like i will be either getting early euros or modifying my bulb carier for rear fogs...

Euro tails are the same as US tails except the rear fog hole is punched out and the fog trace is wired, fwiw.

yeah, i found a good writeup on how to put rear fogs on us cars, it would just be easier to put in euro tails and replace my cracked tails than it would be to install fog wires in the tail. but it looks like i will just e modifying the ones i have.

For the amount of time, money, and effort to do the replacement of the rear sheet metal and the prep and painting to make it look decent, you could probably buy a whole decent late model shell. SO not worth it.
