what supposed to be holding my battery?

i have a late model (90). whats supposed to be holding my battery down? i still gots the plastic tray for it, and thats good. then there is a long thin bolt on the back that just kind of wedges the battery. i know this isnt how it supposed to be.

anyone offer any insight on proper battery mounting?

There should be a bracket that the long bolt screws through to clamp one end of the battery down.

If you have the correct battery it will hold it down by the "lip" on the bottom edge (also locks it into a channel in the front).

i imagine thats a bmw only battery?

i imagine no one uses these anymore... if im replacing it with a standard sealed battery, what are my options?

No it's an MT91 or MTP91 from Interstate Battery (used to be called an MB66) I'm sure a lot of manufactures and suppliers still have direct replacements for them.

              Very common European battery.

ok thats good news. so since my battery needs to be replaced i will get a mt91 style.

to clarify, to hold it down like stock, i need the long bolt plus a clamp (which im missing)?

The long bolt should have a little metal angle bracket foot thing on it take a look at one of the parts pimps sites (real OEM or whatever)

This is listed as a group 47 battery some places. You can also use a group 49 (aka MTP-93) if you have a lot of stereo equipment.

I read it again and my reply was silly.

Yes Group 47 and the 49 will fit as well (kind of big though).
