AMP or Headunit Causing This Sound?

I purchased this E30 three years ago. Everything about it is in great condition and working order, except for the radio.

1989 325is with premium sound. To my knowledge, nothing has been modified with the system(2 owner, 106k mile car and was bone stock when I bought it)

Does this sound like it could be a head unit or AMP failure? The speakers definitely work, they are very loud when it is playing this "sound". You can hear the music is playing to some extent when I turn it up, but otherwise it is mostly this very loud distorted noise.

Eric535 did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the exact same issue. I purchased a second OEM amp and same issue.
