    Fader Switch Question

I posted this in the audio section, but no one responded. Trying here:

My fader switch doesn't seem to be working properly in my 325i convertible. I was going to take it out and try to clean it (if possible), but when I removed the blank panel next to it and started pushing out the switch the radio started beeping at me!
I was afraid it was going to lock up so I quickly grabbed my keys and started the car. Beeping stopped.

    Questions:
Has anyone tried to clean this switch or should I just try to get a replacement?
Can i get a NEW one anywhere or do I have to get an ebay one and hope it works?
Also, what is the proper way to remove this switch without the head unit yelling at you?

    Thanks!

I would find the radio code and learn to use it before proceeding.

If you have the code, don't worry about the head unit. Pull the radio fuse if you are worried and just turn the unit off. There is nothing sensitive about that fader part.
