    Anyone know what this is?

    Hi there,

    upon further searching around under my dash I found this black box thing packed around foam up above a type of bracket space above where my ECU goes...

    Looks like an alarm to me.

          If it no longer works, go ahead. If you're starter cranks but engine doesn't start then it's not the alarm. All alarms to my knowledge only disable the ignition switch so if you turn the key and nothing happens then look for a starter kill relay under the column and bypass it. If the engine is cranking and just not starting then you have another issue, like faulty OBC (if you have one) relay box.

            Not necessarily true - I have an 80's alarm installed and if unplugged / armed, the car will crank but no start. OP's start problem could be alarm
