Thinking about ditching my cd player

I've considered ditching my Alpine CD player in favor of a single DIN 3 gauge pod and just going with an IPOD aux hook up. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Just need some sort of line converter. Anyone do this yet? (the iPod hookup, without headunit)

you'd have to run Ipod directly into an amplifier, otherwise ipod simply doesn't have enough output to run speakers.

Also, direct aux in to the factory amp does not give a very loud signal. A signal converter would be needed.

Only way you will be able to do it is ether do a hidden head unit install or as said before run it into a amp. Ipod will not be able to produce enough power.

Right, I assumed the factory amp would suffice. Most ipod integrations are just that...integrations, so there isn't much on the net about entirely replacing the headunit. I don't want to run a headunit at all. A converter is definately needed, just can't find the right one for this application. Might have to use a combination of connectors. hmmm

factory amp (if you had premium sound) is only about 150amps. Consider getting an amp closer to 1000 and then you'll be alright.

Guys who run carputers have to do this, because sound cards are too weak.

What if you just ran it into one of those eq's that bump up the voltage of your signal..some of them even have a gain knob on them I think....this one looks a little beat up but puts out 4v to the amp...
