it could be a bad thermostat, the fan itself could be bad, it could also be the fan swith check those

Might also be a bad resistor on the fan itself. Common fault.

ok so i need to check my thermostat , fan switch and resister? yea because ive never seen the fan turn on ever. i have a bad head gaskest allready but ive never seen teh car get hot till the other day. i turn the heater on and hot air only works for a few mins then it turns cold. I'll have to test this stuff tomarrow. thanks for the infoguys! think its time to save up and dump the m10

the fan only comes on the low speed at 90c, and the high speed at 99c.. i'd be looking at the resistor for the low speed, and then the two relays that control the fan. Either that or your engine just isn't getting hot enough to turn it on, 90c is past the 1/2 mark on the E30 gauge, 99c is almost to the red...

well my car over heated last night, still the fan never came on. i have a small crack in my rad. now and this sucks ass lol . i was in teh drive threw for in n out and the car started to get really hot, so i kept turning it off and waited, by the time was about to get my food there was steam coming from the hood, i park and look inside. coolant everywhere, everything wet from teh steam. took allmost half a hour just so the temp could get to reg temp. i drove the car home, low rpms and a pretty high speed to cool it down, didnt really help and this sucks

FIXED!, havnt checked my coolant for some time. i opened the rad cap didnt see any coolant so i toped it off and tested the car. let it idle for over 30mins didnt even pass the middle. also ghetto fabd a over flow tank since the m10's never had them. basicly good a large gatoraid bottel and got a hose from the over flow and yea made that. test #2 drove the car really hard for around 15 mins. still didnt pass the middle. thus the problem was low on coolant haha. good thing at my job i can unlimited amounts of coolant. I still have teh small crack in rad. but its ok for now till i save up for a swap
