    Premium Speaker Question

    Just curious if its a good idea to just replace only the factory amplifier and keep the stock premium speakers? If so, what should be the correct watts for the replacement amp?

    Thanks.

      definitely just get rid of the factory amp and re-run your wires. i'm running 65x4 with high pass crossovers. 35x4 to 65x4 would probably do just fine. above that, who knows? i have no experience with more power than that.

        Thanks.

        I found a 4-channel car amplifier - 70 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms at a good price. Can I use this to power my stock premium speakers?

          if i use a 70watts x 4 to run the front and rear and an infinity basslink, am I required to install a capacitor?

              Thank you. More noobie questions....

              1. Can I use the stock radio to connect this 2 amps?

              2. Also, what does the pre-out means? Can I use the pre-out to connect the basslink? (Front & Rear RCA to 4-channel amp then use the pre-out to connect the basslink)

              3. Wiring question, let me know if this looks correct or retarded...

              LF
              RADIO ---> Grey/red (soldered to RCA) ---> AMP ---> yellow/red ---> speaker
              RADIO ---> Grey/Purple (soldered to RCA) ---> AMP ---> Yellow/Brown ---> speaker

              RF
              Grey/White --> AMP -- > Blue/red
              Grey/Brown --> AMP -- > Blue/Brown

              LR
              Black/Red --> AMP -- > Yellow/Black
              Black/Purple --> AMP -- > Yellow/Brown

              FR
              Black/White --> AMP -- > Blue/Black
              Black/Brown --> AMP -- > Blue Brown

                    Lol! its a combination of the wiring diagrams from different posts...

                    I guess, to make my question simple - how do I connect 2 amplifiers (4 channel and basslink) using the stock radio from my 1992 318ic if possible? I want to keep my stock radio since I am still undecided what to replace it that would look oem aside from the expensive CD43.

                    Thanks Luke for responding.

                      Take the speaker wires off the stock deck and hook them to the "speaker level input" on the amp. Then run RCA's from the Pre-Out on the amp to the Basslink. Simple as that. Here is the factory wiring diagram for your car:

                      Take a look at page 83 for the speaker wires coming off the deck.

                        Thanks, since I do not have the wires from "speaker level input", can I solder the RCA from the wires from the radio (center pin - positive, outershiled - chassis ground)?
