    New Stereo

    Noobish Question
I went to a stereo shop and there was a guy there and i was talking about getting an new head unit and stuff and the guy wanted to see my car and he was like Because you have a highend car, you will need to replace all of the speakers in your car if you get a new head unitfor it to work correctly...

he was saying something about computers and stuff...

i dont know that much about stereos, and reading throught this board apparently you can I think that tis guy was bullshitting me about the having to get all new speakers, because i got my speakers replaced over the summer Boston acoustic and i dont know because that doesnt sound right if i already replaced my speakers throughtout the car and i dont know an you guys now a hell of alot more then i do so thanks for any info that i can get.

    Punctuation is your friend.

If you get an aftermarket deck, you'll have to rewire the speakers to the internal amplifier in the deck. BMW uses some screwy wiring for the factory system.

if u get a new head unit u dont HAVE to rewire the speakers, its just kinda complicated to do it without rewiring. (i had a friend hook my headunit up to the existing wiring it took him like 30 minutes). but if ur gonna get new speakers down the road then u might as well go ahead and rewire.

Your friend did not do it properly then.

There is no proper way to wire up a new head unit to existing/new speakers through the existing factory wiring.

i figured out how to get everything working with the existing wires, but it was a total ghetto rig (to me, at least) and wouldn't fade from the deck. if i remember (i did this like 4 years ago when i first got my shitbox) it only has a left and right channel and doesn't fade without the fader button thing on the dash. it wasn't too bad to hook up because i didn't have the premium speakers and the amp to contend with. regardless, i still ended up gutting the car and rewiring it a couple days later.

Don't waste your time with stock wiring. Go pick up some 16 guage speaker wire and go wild.

              Keep it slideways!!

This would fall under the "not proper" column.

like kencooper and Joran said, rewire the system.

You will be amazed at how the music sounds after you get a deck and a rewired system. Because the stock cassette player, amp and wiring is so shitty, it will sound like a top of the line pro audio system for about 10 seconds, and the you will crave for new speakers - which is about the time you are really thankful that you got the rewiring out of the way :)

The wiring can be done, it was done on my 325iX when I first had my Alpine HU put in it. I didn't feel like re-wiring it at the time. My car had the non-premium speakers.

You can use the stock wires, I'm not exactly sure how it was done, but it worked and the fade/balance on the HU worked just as it should. I took it to a professional car audio installer and it took the guy 15 minutes to get it working. You have to run a few wires, like I said, not exactly sure what was done.

Maybe I need to do a write up about using the existing wire.

Eitherway, you are better off re-wiring the speakers. It will take time and planning, but it is well worth it.

you do not have to rewire on a non-premium sound system... when i got my headunit (first mod) i just spliced the wiring harness from the head unit into the corresponding wires in the car, bada bing bada boom, DONE! 10 minutes... sounds fine, everything works, end of story...

The guy who installed my Alpine HU left the stock harness intact. He ran a few leads into another wire. I dunno what he did.
