I just received my Clarion ProAudio DXZ845MC head unit and PAC OEM-2 interface and plan on connecting it to the factory amp/speakers (until I can source an amp and good speakers at which time I will then rewire). I plan on doing a write up when I install it in the next few weeks.

For people who just wanna hear music and not obsess over it than wiring to the stock wires is fine.

No its not. Its halfass, and detrimental to the headunit.

It takes like 30 minutes to run new wire to the existing speakers.

since the premium system is looking for a low level imput for the amp from the deck, you could just cut the ends off an RCA cable and splice it into the stock wiring. Of course you would need to have an aftermarket deck with 2 sets of pre outs to have it fade.

The problem is with the aging amp system, an aftermaket built in amp of the headunit is going to put out better quality. I think it's worth rewiring to each speaker.

Sort of accurate there, but not quite.

The deal is that the BMW amp wants to see about 3 watts (X2 channel) as an input.

ALL modern decks put out about 15 watts per channel, but 4 channels.

You can lower the wattage by simply leaving the negative speaker wire disconnected from the deck...this will get things much closer, being about 4 watts...but still 4 channel.

If you tried splicing RCA ends onto the amp inputs, it would see about .25 watts (and overheat the hell out of the preamp stage) thus making very little sound.

The correct way to do things is to run new wires. It is not all that hard.

But, on the other hand, this is R3V, so bullshit backyard installs are the norm.

If you decide to do it right, post on here. We will get you straightened out. Your deck will sound so much better you just won't believe it.

Ask Joe Funk what I did for his 335 using basically a butcher knife and a hammer....
