Need Audio Help. What BMW Headunit do I have?

So I have a couple questions. Through searching, ive seen that the c33 can be modified for an aux input and RCA outputs for a signal for an amp setup.

This is the current radio in my e30. Its an 87 325is with the premium system. I also have the 6 disk cd changer in the trunk.

What is the name of my radio?

Could I do the same thing to mine? Im trying to avoid buying a new headunit but if absolutely needed I will. in the end, I will be running a sub/amp setup and I do want the aux input for my ipod.

    Thanks a lot.

for the 5/7 series. i had the same one, but it crapped out so i switched the head unit. if you go that route i can explain how to wire it so that it sounds like 80's "premium" sound.

im not into the electrical side of stuff, so i dont know anything about how to wire it for more inputs, but that is the head unit for the 5 or 7 series BMW. i swapped the head unit in my car and it was very straightforward. i have the premium sound system w/o the CD changer, if you want me to look at the wiring i did i can check my car. although it looks cool to have the original head unit in, one from this decade will have much better sound and be alot easier to use.

If you remove the HU, there should be a sticker on the HU with the model number.

The easiest way is to install an aftermarket, inline iPod/MP3 adapter.

The best one's I have seen install inline with the antenna and you plug your MP3 player into it.

          Something like this:

Thanks for the reply. Read some more and read that its possible to solder rca's to the end of the speaker wires.

Does that only work for the c33/cd33? Or can it be done with my headunit as well?

Also still wondering if the aux input mod can be done. Thanks.

A lot of amps have the little spots where you can wire in the speaker signal wires without using RCA cables. No need to solder on RCA jacks. You'll just need to run wire from the speaker outs on the deck to the amp, then out to the speakers.

You can do that solder trick with any headunit with a cassette head. An even easier solution in your case is to splice into the changer wires.

NickL - that looks like a KE-83zbm. I've taken one of those apart to fix the light bar.
