Just got my PPI 355CS compnents today

Holy heavy!! I'm really, really impressed with everything I've seen so far. Heavy magnets, stout frames, nice tweets, and crossovers that are built to last a lifetime. I'm planning on making stand-off spacers to move them back off the kick panel just a bit for cone excursion. Hopefully my old Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4 will do them justice.

Luke (if you're reading this), that 600.4 has a "LPL" controller input. Any idea if I can use any brand remote pot to mount in my dash as a sub-level controller? Or do I have to use a Phoenix Gold unit?

I hope you're patient as it could take some time. I don't want to do the install until I get an alarm system up & running. Then I'll pull wires when I swap carpets out. And make a back-plate for Luke's sub enclosure. etc, etc, etc.

I got to pairs of them. I can't wait to get out there and get em in my car. They look like very high quality for sure. I can't believe the price! It's like they made a mistake and we are taking advantage of it.

Luke, can you recommend a good/cheep 5 ch amp to power these and one of your (future) subs?

John, there is slim pickins in the world of 5 channel amps.

I liked the Kappa, but apparently 2 for 2 have died in my knowledge.

I LOVE the Memphis "Baby Belle", but it is seriously overpriced. The JL 6600 (not the slash series) is a pile of crap, 1 power supply for all 6 channels, same for the old Phoenix Gold XS series 6 channel. The 500/1 is an absolute winner, but again, more moolah than 2 comparable amps.

Oh yeah, the Alpine PHX or whatevern What a pile of shit. Worst SQ I have ever heard from those hacks, all of that series is grainy, noisy and underpowered.

I would LOVE to see a nice quality (Chinese, of course) 5 channel. 2 ohm stable, 300ish watts RMS on sub, 50WX4 RMS on highs, with excellent crossovers, variable Q and all that, and a price point around $350, like it should be. Maybe even the ability to master/slave the bass side so you can add to it is you wanna!

OH YEAH, I forgot. Back in the early 90's, there was a Blaupunkt amp, the BPA5350, actually was made by Zapco for its first run. If you can find one of those (GFL), you have a winner.

I just did a search for the old 5350. The only mention of it was from me, on R3V, back in 2007. I apparently never change.

          Luke

Well, kind of. The GT50 is discontinued and is replaced by the GT-5750, with an MSRP of $799 (EIGHT HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS FOR THAT?!?!?!?) but the GT 50 kicks ass at the $300ish price point that it has all over the web.

Not exactly the amp of choice for big boomers, but the thing sounds great and $300ish is a steal for it. That amp running 2 pair of those PPI speakers and a single 10 would be just awesome.

              Great call, Chris!

I'm trying to get my old JL 250/1 back from my brother-in-law. I always thought it was under-rated in both SQ and power.

Luke, do you think I should hold on to the Tantrum 600.4 or look for something else right away?

The Tantrum is a fine amp...when it works.

In fact, I have 2 of the 2 channel beasts that might match yours. When I get to Oregon I will check the storage unit again, see what status is.

BTW guys, those PPI components are NOT $100/set speakers, they are $350/set, you are all just getting a serious closeout/overstock deal.

A great deal would be $200/set. Snap them up while you can.

Sorry, not Luke-but I have the exact same setup in my E30. Now granted, I have almost fully sound deadened the inside of my car and I have the PPI components actively crossed over with a number of hours of fine tuning involved...but the setup honestly sounds amazing. I have had a few E30's with systems in each, and this sounds the best by far.

For the PPI components, especially if you use the supplied passive crossovers, I recommend at least 75-100 watts continuous power. 50 TRUE watts per channel will suffice, but they really come alive with around 100 watts.
