Thanks for the reply Eric, I'm considering doing exactly that but was on the fence about using a second pair for midbass fill in the rear deck. I think with the size of the E30 cabin that might just be a tad overkill. What crossover points have you found works best for the mids?Sorry, not Luke-but I have the exact same setup in my E30. Now granted, I have almost fully sound deadened the inside of my car and I have the PPI components actively crossed over with a number of hours of fine tuning involved...but the setup honestly sounds amazing. I have had a few E30's with systems in each, and this sounds the best by far.
For the PPI components, especially if you use the supplied passive crossovers, I recommend at least 75-100 watts continuous power. 50 TRUE watts per channel will suffice, but they really come alive with around 100 watts.

what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.Comment

"turned and screwed into the body at a 45 degree angle". I'm not getting this.
Just ordered a set of 355's and thinking of cutting factory kicks and fitting the PPI grills on the KP for full excursion. Maybe find some paint and pain the grills to match KP color...

Please correct me if iiI'm wrong, but I think he means rotate the speaker 1/4 turn to expose the original screw holes for the grill cover.
I'd be concerned about glovebox clearance with the PPI grills though, they're much deeper than the ones twistednut has pictured.

You are correct. The hard part was finding factory original grills from the junkyard that weren't cracked.what you did to this car is like getting a supermodel naked and willing to do anything you please. now here you are faced with ths once in a lifetime opportunity and then you squander it by making her fuck you in the butt with a 24" strap on. you are a sad, silly little boy.Comment

Originally I was using my 20 year old a/d/s/ PH15 amp which is 50 watts into 6 channels. 50 watts to the tweeters, 50 to the mids, and the rear channels bridged for an elemental designs sub.
A few weeks ago a friend of mine gave me a new Blaupunkt Velocity VA4100 which is 100 watts into 4 channels. I purchased a matching VA1400 mono amp for the sub. I am a little torn now on what to do..on one hand, I appreciate the extra reserve power that I have with the Blaupunkt's and the new sub amp definitely helps keep the woofer in control better. But on the other hand, with the Blaupunkt's the tweeters now sound overly bright and slightly harsh at times. I have readjusted the levels to get the balance where it was previously, but overall the a/d/s/ amp just sounded smoother on the high end. Alecs MacDonald has listened to my setup with both amps and also commented that the a/d/s/ amp sounded better in regards to the high end.
Ok sorry for the rambling-but that is what I am using!Eric Giles

I am planning to use an a/d/s pq40 with 1/2 used for the fronts(@100wpc) and 3/4 bridged to run the sub(@300w). I also have available a 642csi that I plan use as a pre-amp x-over. We'll see how all that works out.
Also, I'm loving the factory grills idea!
edit: in reply to sennasixty8: yea when I got mine for $75 a pair it was shipped and they shipped FASTLast edited by stumble_t; 12-12-2009, 09:50 PM.
