Luke is right about the location in the door.
I dont recommend acrylic and door card alone to control the resonance of that midbass.
You could make a 1/2" or 3/4" ring that is hidden inside your tube (glued to the tube) that would allow you to screw directly into the metal and therefore have a stable mounting of the mid. A hole 1/2 the area of the cone is more than sufficient for "venting" into the door through said MDF ring.
I dont think the stock location is all that bad. I think mostly its due to area behind the spkr is not large enough for good low end extension. I cut off my mids that I have currently located there at 400Hz.- so I have no expereince with low end midbass. The thing I REALLY dont like about the stock location is the huge gaping "hole" forward of the speaker that BMW used to route the wiring into the door. There's no separation of front and rear sound waves unless you install a baffle, or use the stock kick panel to separate the spkr - so long as the front of the spkr is not install behind the kick panel.
My door handles rattle like crazy on any low notes. So be aware that you may have to do some buzz elimination after you start listening to the system.
Get busy installing, and post some pics.
