looking for more bass

i'm looking to add some more bass to fill in the sound. so far my music sounds good, but it's lacking in the lower end

here are my specs:
nakamichi headunit w/ 3 sets of pre-outs (using one)
mb quart 5.25 components up front
disconnected "premium" speakers in back
a/d/s 4ch amp in the trunk bridged and powering the fronts

i really don't want to take up any space or add weight iin the trunk. even for a single 10" sub box.
so i'm thinking maybe to un-bridge my amp and power JUST the 5.25 rear speakers with the extra channels. problem there is i don't have a crossover in the amp. ideally it would play from 100-3000hz or thereabouts i'm thinking

on a side note, b/c i have a 4ch amp powering just one set of speakers i have it bridged to boost the power. i've heard something about bi-amping the mb quart crossovers. i assume this means the amp is powering the tweeter and woofer seperately, using all 4 channels. would this be better or worse than my current bridged setup? maybe i'll start a new thread for this topic if i get enough feedback on this.

You could get small 8 inch woofers an place them in the car somewhere possibly in the rear deck.

Look into some nice mid-bass drivers, such as the Kicker SSMB6 or SSMB8 to install into the rear deck (replacing stock components). Connect the 2 channels to these and you would have quite good low end response.

The 5.25"s aren't going to give you much frequency response down around 100Hz. You'd be better off with an 8" and a small mono amp.

Why not use the fronts on just the front channels of the ADS amp and bridge ch3 and 4 of it to run midbasses in the rear deck? That way you dont have to buy a 2nd amp or find a place to mount a 2nd one.

right, that's what i was thinking about doing. but i refuse to chop up my parcel shelf. there are actually holes cut in the metal for 6.5's (previous owner) but i have a new shelf pad installed that is in great shape.

i don't think powering just the 5.25's will add much in the 150-800hz range. also i dont have any crossover for the rear. just the factory speakers and a non-crossover amp. so if i did power up just the 5.25's they'd get a full signal. which may work ok, but i'd rather cut all the high freqs out.

Kicker SSMB6. 30-500hz response 6.5" diameter. With a nice grill on top it wouldn't look hacked up at all.

so 30-500hz is it's ideal range? i'm assuming they require a low pass filter to strip 500+ from the signal? again, my amp doesnt have crossovers built in so i need something external that won't hose the signal

in an old car, i had a large coil of copper wire acting as a LPF. it really sucked balls

You are going to want an active crossover for them. I dunno, though. For the price of the active crossovers I'd rather just get a smaller amp to power them separately. Most if not all amps produced now have built in variable crossovers.
