I have the 9830 in my yota, running eclipse fronts and stock rears on the internal amp, with a pioneer 10inch sub/amp in the back... It powers the speakers fine, I also have a sirius adapter connected to the AI-net and an AUX Adapter.

Its a great headunit, so I can imagine the 9831 being better ;)

I'm afraid you'll have to check the website, I can't get an actual URL.

Click products, headunits, CD Players, CDA-9831.

I'm guessing they can only be found used now?

My current unit is a Clarion (don't know what model), and the volume knob doesn't usually do want I want it to, and the buttons are small, hard to read, and confusing. However, the sound quality is good.
I also prefer the looks of the Alpine.
I don't know how the sound quality of each would compare though... I know most people rate Alpine's as good headunits though.

Good question. The headunit is aftermarket, so perhaps the speakers are too. Whats the easiest way to get the covers off the ones on the rear shelf?

The Clarions go on ebay all the time new in box. It is old stock so you get a huge deal on them. I think they retailed for 399.
I retired my E30 for now...

I took a look at the Clarion and it looked pretty cool, and it also had many features. But, if it's Sirius ready, won't it only use Sirius?

However, I decided to get an Alpine off Ebay. $271 shipped, brand new. Retail is $450.
I'm going to buy an XM receiver and adaptor now. I presume I need both?
Thanks for all the feedback guys.

The 9833 is a lot more deck. Just an FYI.

Damn I hate it when people say that. The 9833 was $25 more. However, I didn't think that I'd really ever be able to appreciate those extra specs, especially since I'm not upgrading the speakers right now.
Besides, I think the 9831 looks a bit better.
