Amp/sub setup question

Im lookin at buying a 10 inch alpine type x for the e30 soon and using my pioneer 760 watt amp to power it. But my buddy has type R's and they sound great and cost half as much. So i was wondering what the difference in bass would be between the type r and type x with the amount of power im running to them, since the R is a 1500 watt max and the X is a 3000 watt max. Anybody know?

Im tired so if my question sounds retarded let me know and ill edit it in the morning.

Your amp makes an honest 180 watts.

It is likely to blow up a Type X: underpowered is far more dangerous than overpowered.

True! I always try to have the amp with more headroom than the speakers. Square-wave clipping is not a very good thing

Im lookin at a 2 ohm, but im probably just gonna put up the money and pick up a 3000 watt monoblock at the same time as i buy the woofer.

The x is 1000rms correct? 500 per coil. The r is 500rms 250 per coil. I have three r's. One is in a ported box in my black vert run off of a pdx 600.1 amp, the card from alpine shows 620rms @2 or 4 ohms, actual output. I have killed 4 r's with it. My white car has 2 r's in a sealed box with an alpine 1000.1 powering both, it outs out 600rms at 4 ohms which is how it is wired.

I considered going to an x but everybody I have asked advised against it, too much power required to make it sound good and not needed in my system. I hear that they don't fare well in sealed boxes.

Am I doing something terribly wrong by only using 250w RMS into one 10" DVC sub? I cannot fathom why I would ever need more. Maybe I'm missing something (and it's not bottom end!)
