The 805 has a "user" setting in addition to the presets you mention. Under "user", there is a three band EQ, but the frequency of each band is customizable, as is the range +/- on either side of the selected frequency.

On the 815 the User EQ is semi-parametric 3-band as well. Freqs are preset with 3 choices for each band. However, you have sweep and level control over those freqs. The sweep makes a big difference.

Thanks for the link to the level control, 318Joe. I didn't know that a "generic" one was available.

Np. Thought long and hard about picking one up given the features. I really would like something with built-in BT capability :(

This JVC I would call "integrated" more than "built in"...I mean, cmon, 2 USB ports, hooray!

Oh wait, 1 has the fucking BT dongle in it? Eat dick, assholes! or something like that...

Wait a sec, guys, let me make clear I am DAMNED impressed with this deck. My little bit of time with it was absolutely impressive, especially considering the price.

I can criticize the stuff I like all damn day. Nothing is perfect!

And WTF is with the bling, bling, sun reflecting faceplates. Its like these morons have never driven a car. I got the arsenal model with the smoked metal accents thinking that would tone it down, but the whole damn thing is polished to a mirror finish.

I know what you mean. Same mixed feelings. So close, and yet...

On a personal note, though, I can't stand to have something plugged into the front of the deck. Even a small usb stick hangs out so far as to be a broken faceplate moment waiting to happen. If I wanted wires hanging out of the front of the deck, I'd have kept the factory cassette and used a cassette adapter.

Thankfully, the usb dongle only protrudes about a quarter of an inch out of the usb slot, making it just about unnoticeable in the faceplate. And, the three foot rear usb cable reaches into the glovebox, where anything can be plugged in out of sight.

Anybody try and plug a usb hub into one yet? That was next on my list.

I was an Alpine man all my life. I've had two great decks from them. One is still kicking in a company truck (3rd install since 1986). But lately....I haven't been as impressed with the quality.

Luke recommended the JVC. I've always thought JVC specialized in being the brand that was given away at raffles. I never gave them the time of day, but I started looking at the specs. Really impressive. Talked with Sonic about them and the guy seemed shocked that I never considered them before. I am very, very pleased with this thing. I think it looks attractive enough (no chrome bling on mine), but the sound quality and features really can't be beat. Keep in mind that I've got a McIntosh setting on the shelf that I could swap in there if the audio was not up to snuff. I haven't been tempted in the slightest to put it in the JVC's place.

                            Nice find, Luke.

Hmmm, may have to reconsider the JVC. Sure wish it was more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
