The 1.0 cubic foot sealed box I built for Buddy was 28lbs...I bet 5/8" would get that under 25lbs

this is the answer to all of your problems. It may not be 1/2 as good as Lukes box, but it fufills 99% of your wants.

I have had both a sealed box and a luke box in my E30. Not even close. Luke's box rocks so hard.

George, I did an install for a guy who had your exact wants. Used a JL audio 10w6 and a 1ft^3... sounded really good. I'll post some pictures if you are interested. Goes in and out super quickly, was easy to build, and is pretty damn light.
