Does a Z4 antenna swap easily into E30s?

I don't have a power antenna or any antenna for that matter. Will a short Z4 antenna fit directly into an E30?

no, you need a Z4 grommet(or E36ti ones work too). i did this recently, great swap, took all of 5 minutes, 2 to pull the antenna from the Z4, .5 to walk over to my car, and 2.5 to install in mine

I did it with an E30 grommet, so both work...but you do absolutely need a grommet...

So Matt, how is your reception? Does AM still work well?

hmm, thats interesting, my E30 grommet was WAY to large...

anyways, my reception is stronger then my old antenna, honestly i hardly ever switch over to AM, so i cant compare, but FM is great!

My only gotcha with this mod (used a 318ti antenna base + PepBoy special antenna) is that it's angled a bit out of vertical. I need to make a little brace to true it up.

Outside of that, seems to get very strong signal. Pretty much plug and play.

Though, the grommet thing I'm not too sure about. When I did mine I had to use a 318ti grommet as the stock one had a far too large hole.

Anyone done this? It seems like they are referring to Z3 not Z4!

Who uses AM hahahha! But really! Wondering how the reception is on these. Mine doesn't go up anymore and I'm on a stock radio so mine simply blows. Is there a big difference between the z3 and z4?

E36 vert antenna works just as well. Same cost in parts and I'm sure the parts are the same, they just supersede to the Z4/ Z3 model. I have this mod on both my cars. Black to ground, Red female hot to male antenna module base. White is taped or heat shrunk to cover wire and avoid grounding to chassis and zip tied out of the way. Enjoy..... Cheers!
