325i motometer cluster into 318is motometer

I understand that something has to be switched out from the old 318is cluster into the new 325i cluster before I can install it in my car. Can anyone direct me in the proper path as to what has to be swapped? There has to be some sort of plug that needs to be swapped in order to properly read the odo and speedo for the m42 4 cylinder engine. Coding plug maybe?


Any help in these regards would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, its a chip in a white plastic case located in the front of the cluster on the right side.

Thanks man i'm swapping out my old dash for a crack free one and since I swooped up a nice cluster using my 5 finger discount, I figured I couldn't go wrong!
