tweeter pods on a 318is..

hey guys, i have a pair of tweeter pods and want to install them to my car. I was wondering if u guys can tell me how i may install them.. thanks in advance.

Generally, they are pre-wired. The wires are grey/green and grey/yellow. Sometimes, they are under hte door panel, you may have to take the panel off.

The wires are in your kickpanels, but strung along the harness oddly, as the ground connects to the amp way down the harness, nearly to the floor.

The stock premium sound mids have the crossover built into them, so there is a pair of terminals for input plus one output to run the tweeter. All in all, a very confusing setup.

What I do is separate the tweeter wires from that harness by clipping the ends off then pull them free. Generally, I use aftermarket crossovers though, as the ones on the premium sound mids are of marginal quality.

Say if best buy installed your stereo, and you plug in the tweeter pods, will they work?

no, unless it was a PS car that they figured out how to keep the amp.

Generally the kinds of installers that work at BB or Car Toys are too lazy/hurried to do anything like that.

thanks for your help, im not that big on quality, its just i wanted to try and hook them up because i had them laying around.

If you hook them up without a crossover, they will sound terrible & blow out. You need some way to block low frequency signals. Doing something like putting a 7uF capacitor in series with the tweeter should protect it at least.

these do come in both 4 ohm and 8 ohm, and some have a cap built in.

Hit die bremsen: there are DIFFERENT impedance tweeters and premium speakers? Nice: so one had better get a complete set from the same car?

no, just check and adjust capacitors accordingly.

Oh. OK. Well, I'm being lazy, I am reusing the stock wiring (so much so that I just pinned a molex 8-to-8 plug to bypass the rear amp and still use the stock wiring, after cutting the splices near the radio - it took about 6x as much as taking the old harness out and putting a new one in would have, but never mind). Therefore, I will be using the stock premium speaker capacitor crossovers. I really should get something better.
