How detrimental is this? I see Mike Swahle mounted a Class A/B infinty amp upside down in his M3, but for amps such as class D, how much of a problem is heat soak, etc?

sholdnt be too much of a problem, unless its a really high powered amp that gets very hot.
the heat from the amp will rise into the curcut board instead of the metal top of the amp so it might run hotter -

It depends on the amp. If the sides of the amp are big heat sinks then it won't matter too much. The MBQuart amp I put upside down also had vent holes in the bottom, so with them on the top now the hot air should get out of the chassis more easily. The PCB was on the top too, so not the heat rises from that with it on the bottom now.
See if you can get a look inside.Comment

Why not mount them upside right, hanging from brackets?
You can buy cheap tubing at Home depot or a hobby store, cut lengths so that the amps have like 1" of clearance and shoot screws through the tube into the underside of the rear deck.
You will of course need some damn long screws, but WTF, right?Comment
