Maybe a stupid question as I don't know shit, but would it be possible to connect some RCA leads on the CD43 BEFORE the internal preamps ??

      Cheers Pierre
It would certainly be possible, and pretty easy actually. I sort of prefer the higher voltage output & kind-of differential output from the amp IC myself.

I haven't gotten that far yet. Getting all the fun little "extra" doodads (that I will probably never use myself) worked into the interface will be more of an afterthought once I nail down the rest of the functionality.

I have a feeling that the market for this will be very small...not many E30 owners are willing to drop $200-$350 just to get a faceplate from a CD43, $100+ for a new head unit & $[whatever] the price of a conversion kit would be. From what I can tell of things now, a PCB will be required for the "translator". Rat's-netsing a DIY circuit probably won't work too well since space is very tight (you could, but you definitely won't pull it off if this is your first circuit project!).

Then again, who knows. We'll see what it all looks like when I get there.

Looks like an excellent project! I just recently swapped out the CD43 in my E34 for a JVC head unit. (JVC KD-AHD69) Not as nice as the stock look of the CD43, but the color matching and plain black face makes it less obnoxious than most aftermarket HUs.

I definitely want to see where this goes! Your electronics skills are awesome! And I thought I was cool because I could swap out capacitors and lasers on old video game consoles!
