    altntr 12.5v's at idle, need 14+v's

    hi,
    87 325ic, my alternator is putting 12.5 volts at idle and 14+ while driving.

    is there a low rpm with higher out put voltage regulator that i can use on oem unit?

    currently running...

    4, 5 1/4" Sony xploids xs-v1331, 3 ways speakers powered by
    1, 600W Sony xploid XM-604EQX amp
    2, 12" Sony xploid XS-L woofers powered by
    1, 250W MTX 250 thunder
    2, 8" Sony xploid L-830 woofers powered by
    1, 250W MTX 250 thunder amp

    monster cables.

    OK, Im not totally sure what you're asking about, but I'm assuming that you want more power to your audio system. In which case you DON'T want more voltage! You want more amperage, which you can easily get from upgrading your alternator.

      yes your right, how do i go about upgrading alternator ?
      buy a bigger one, if so from whom ? or what car ?
      can it be found on 5, 6 or 7 series bmw's manufactured before 1990 ?
      or just a new volt/amp regulator from 5, 6 or 7's ?

        Well you probably wouldn't go with a BMW one, most likley an aftermarket one.



        Stinger makes good ones, so I've heard. They go all the way up to 270amp, but I'm sure you won't need that much.
