    Original Radio installation

    Hello,

I'm looking to put a original radio back in my 91' IX. When i bought it it came with a JVC radio thing that seems nice but its "plasticky" and i want to put the original radio in. On ebay i bought a e30 radio for like 15 bucks.

I'm going to auto Toyz this weekend because i need some special tool to get the current radio out. Any tips to hooking the new one up or things i should know. What is the antitheft thing that i've heard about in the radios will this cause me issues with out some code?

I tried to host the images on here but failed sorry, the images of the radio are linked below if it helps.

    Thanks for your help,
    Mason

Mason, you are missing all of the plugs for that radio in that photo. Do you have them?

They are not easy to find.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately i do not have these plugs. Unless they are currently being used behind the current radio. Do you have any suggestions of where i should begin to look for these plugs or what the proper name for them is? Thanks

They were cut off more than likely, as adapters were/are insanely rare, and there never was a "harness" like is used in all modern cars...so they always get cut.

The only set I have took me 2 years to find and are mated to a radio, but not in use.

I might be willing to part with them, but try like hell to find a local set, as I am gonna want $40 at least, or maybe someone else might have a set they are more willing to sell.

Anyway, you need to see if your stock amp is still there and still in use. If it isn't, you are going to want that too. I just made a chart to bypass a factory amp, this chart can be used to reconnect the stock system as well.

coppper.mason, that is an early model headunit. You have a late model car so your wiring is different. You will need the plugs for an OEM radio which you don't have but even if you do find plugs and splice it to the harness, the radio will not accomodate all of the plugs. Later model cars bypassed the fader switch, and all 4 speakers were directly connected to the headunit. In other words, that headunit will only allow for two speakers to be plugged in.

I actually have the stock radio from my '91 ix with the plugs on the back of it (I think, I remember keeping them).

I'd have to dig it up but I wouldn't mind parting with it.

If anyone else has plugs for a stock radio I need them. I'm having the same problem as Copper Mason.....trying to reinstall a stock radio.
