dead speedo - SI board?

This is actually a little strange. ONLY the speedo itself is not working - the needle just stopped moving yesterday. The signal to the OBC and ECU still work, the odometer still works - so the VSS is fine (I actually just replaced the sensor because it was broken).

None of the other gauges are dead - the econometer still works too (which requires a VSS input to function). the SI lights seem to work fine, but as far as I know, the batteries have never been replaced.

I'd actually planned on removing the cluster for a bunch of other work to it so it's at least good timing, but what is most likely? I'm not against replacing the SI board since I'll have it out anyway. Solder joints? Anyone ever see only the speedo needle stop working?

Ever get this figured out? I'm having the same issue, and now im noticing the tach will sometimes sit at 800rpm when the car is off...btw my speedo comes to life with a good solid whack from above.

yeah, it's not the SI board. the batteries are still perfect.

I think the diff sensor plug is just dirty. I unplugged it yesterday, and plugged it back in. Now the speedo works 100%, whereas before it worked maybe 20% of the time..

also, I think the odo was working but was just working slower than it should have been. I thought my mileage was way down.. but now I think it was just the intermittent speedo connection. It got a lot worse later and would go completely dead, both speedo and odo.

Thanks for the info about the plug though, appreciated...I'll try that out when I get back from my 4 day weekend.

I'm thinking since the sensor is new and the wires are good, I'll just buy new pins for the plug and remake it.

Wow I've had the same problem for over 2 years, speedo works like 10-20% of the time, sometimes when I hit a bump or something. Glad I saw this. I'll try it next time I'm near my car :(

Checked the fusebox? Mine did this yesterday, only the speedo had died. 7.5a fuse was blown, replaced and it was back up and running.
