    Stumped.. turn signal problems.

Ok, first off, let me say that I've searched and searched and searched about this problem. I haven't had turn signals for a week, and I've been searching and trying everything I've read.

So, now I come to you r3v.

My turn signals and hazards are not working. I replaced the dash last week and everything worked. Before I put everything back together I made sure I tested all the electronics. I went to turn my car over for the first time (turn signals worked before this) and right as I did, I heard a "pop" and the car died. I went to check my fuses immediately, and they all looked ok (even number 24, the flasher fuse). Then went to the back of the car and checked the battery connection. The negative was loose so I tightened it down. I then went to check the relay under the steering column.. it looked like it had been shorted. Ordered a refab relay off of ebay for like $7. Put it in.. nothing.

Everything else on the car works. The high-beams work on the car, the sound systems, the dash lights.. everything.. except the flashers and hazard button.

What could it possibly be, r3v? Help me resolve the problem and I will send you $5 via paypal.. seriously.

hmm the turn signals won't work if the flasher button doesn't work or isn't in correctly. I've had this problem before. maybe try a new hazard switch or alternatively make sure that the button you think is working is actually doing it's job and not just lighting up (defroster) for example.

sounds familiar, my turns don't work either, highs come on when move stalk up or down. But my emergency flashers work perfectly. go figure, and its not the relay, I replaced it.

Make sure the ground is tight, was having similar problems on my 85 eta. It is located near the drivers side headlight on that car. Look for a bunch of brown wires haha.

Ok, problem solved.. so simple I should be slapped by a large Black man.

The hazard switch plug was loose because my head unit was pulling the back of the plug off of the switch. I tinkered around with the hazard switch a little bit and it worked. I had to pretty much hold the wires up with a screw driver and put the head unit in place.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.. DrMcDave, PM me your paypal and claim your $5.

If the hazards aren't the issue, and it's the turn signal relay, does anyone have the part # for the relay? I'm unsure as to which one I should get off of RealOEM. It's for an 88 325iS.

                Thanks

Part number for the relay I used is: 61.31-1 367 001

It was for a 91 318is, but I think they are the same all around.. I could not find any different ones.

When lifting the turn signal stalk for RIGHT turn, I get the ERRRR sound that comes from the dash. Left turn signal works just fine. Hazards work, but only the left side works.

Later found that the fuse box was seriously FUCKED with, and someone had literally wired fuse-power in, and after it sparked MANY times (before I had the car) it fused with the plastic.... Fuse 21 and 27 are gone- going to try and run a remote fuse(s) for those two.

Now my tach doesn't work after trying to fix the problem. :facepalm

does anyone have an actual oem part number for that relay? Also Nairb, when you first discovered your turn signals didn't work, did your hazard light at least come on on the switch but didn't blink? or did nothing come on at all?

Neither the hazard or turn signals came on.
