    amp settings

so I have an orion amp and the PPI 365cs components which are located in my door, right between map pocket and door pull. tweeters in factory pods. anyways the amp has the gain set ALL the way up, I back it off like 3 degrees cause I didnt think it was too safe or correct.

Now I can get the speakers to get loud, however on my deck I have to put the volume up to like 50 to do so, which I dont think is correct either. I believe the amp puts out 150 RMS per channel, its a 4 chan bridged to two. just curious as to any suggestions to get it to be loud in the non clipping range

also would sealing up the doors/deadening them help at all? recomended sound deadeners that would help seal it, can I use the peel n seal crap at lowes?

edit: I dont mean obnoxiously loud, but loud enough for me on the highway to rock out a little during long drives, im not a clown who pushes the system to the max windows open thru a downtown district.

i have a set of 6 1/2 rockford fosgate components and i could NEVER turn them all the way up and i had a PPI amp only putting out 200 max.
    right around 85-100 RMS
i would say something either isnt hooked up right or u neet to change the settings on the equalizer in the headunit

hit the audio button on the left side and mess with the settings
with the pioneer u might need to turn the loud on since ur using an amp to push the speakers.

loud didnt do too much, it helped a little bit, but i didnt even lower the amp gain down, just cant turn the speakers up to 50 anymore, closer to 42

Loud is just an EQ preset, to make sounds "seem" louder (so it technically makes some sounds louder). How is your amp hooked up to your deck?

^^ should be set to either front or rear "out"
and no loud is not a preset on the pioneer its changes the frequency and DB levels the EQ is built in and u pick the lows meds and highs..

Ok, so you are using the preouts. It would appear to me that some amplifiers are expecting a much stronger signal than some head units put out. Assuming that there's nothing wrong with your cable, I see nothing wrong with turning up the input level on the amplifier until you're happy with how it behaves. Assuming that there's no clipping or overloading of the input (which you should be able to hear very easily), I say go for it.

I would expect that the 4V pre-outs your deck should be sufficient.

Another relevant question I have is what is the impedance rating of your speakers, and what is the impedance rating of your amp in it's current mode of operation (as well as min imp per channel).

If you have an amp set for 2Ω, and run 8Ω speakers off it, you won't get anything close to the output power you'd expect. In that situation, you'd need 4 8Ω speakers in parallel to give you the same wattage as a single 2Ω speaker.

Put another way, I have a 2Ω 600W stereo amp feeding two 4Ω speakers. I'm therefore limited to 300W max, with a similar reduction in RMS.

think i figured it out, since i bridge the amp and only put RCA's into channel 1 and 2 its not right, if i put Y's on it and put an RCA in each channel 1,2,3,4 i believe that would help? correct me if im wrong
