I would suggest you hook up an ipod set to 70% output via the RCA cables that feed the amp and if you get good sound, then you know what to look at. Try another set of RCA cables (known good) if it's still quiet. Then, if it's still quiet just turn up the "gain" on the amp (which may be more of an attenuator) until it does what you want.
It wouldn't hurt to check the speaker - amp connections as well, make sure there's no stray strands of wire touching things they shouldn't be.
I'm a bit confused by that input mode switch, it gives the impression that it does either channels 1 and 2, or 3 and 4. Where's the 1,2,3,4 setting?
NM:
11. Input Mode - 1/2 channel or 3/4 channel selectable. In the 1/2 CH position, the input to channels 1 and 2 are also supplied to channels 3 and 4, respectively. In the 3/4 CH position all 4 channels are supplied separately When the switch is to the left (4 CH position), front and rear inputs are independent. This allows a source unit with an internal fader to fade between the 1/2 CH and 3/4 CH outputs.

Where are you getting this information? I am unable to verify it, and from past experience would say that's nonsense. The manual says nothing about needing to have two inputs attached, and if what you're saying is true, then fading entirely left would cause the amp to malfunction, which I doubt is the case.
Just because the amp doesn't have a single channel mode doesn't mean it won't function properly with signal on a single channel only.

his is a 4 channel amp BUT has RCA inputs kinda likt to amps in one. i used to have one like this but to bridge it i had to have all RCA's hooked up.Where are you getting this information? also im not sayin its fading left. but if it needs to be turned up THAT loud for the speakers to be loud then something is messed up. could be the amp speakers or headunit.sigpic

If that's what you meant, then that's pretty common. They just have some resistors wired in on the high line. if you open it up, those inputs go straight from the high line to resistors, and then into the RCA line. They are not separate (which is why they tell you not to use both at once).his is a 4 channel amp BUT has RCA inputs kinda linked to amps in one. i used to have one like this but to bridge it i had to have all RCA's hooked up.

The fading left thing was a comment about possible operation, not how OP's is or is not operating now.

Press that little button so that it is in 2 channel mode, then use the inputs for 1 and 3 (only the left channels) then check your balance. If you do not have proper left/right, PM me.
