Specs seem decent, but I'm not sure if I can live with the look of it... This unit would replace my sony HU and it's on sale at a local store.

It is pretty busy/flashy isn't it :( It's on sale for 240 U$ installed which isn't too bad... I was going to get the Clarion 745 but they don't sell them anymore here. I'd have to get one on line which I don't want to do cause I want an instore warranty, and I don't want to pay shipping,duty and the other fees just to be SOL if it doesn't work. Anyways what do you think? what else is out there that decent and between 250-300 that has good specs and red/amber illumination? I've read the specs on the Alpines in that price range and they're the same as my sony. 2volt preouts and 1bit dac.

I had an Eclipse CD8454, great sound but I'm disapointed in Eclipses' upgradeability. They released a Sirius tuner finally but its incompatible with my '04 model that I paid $650 for. I'd say go with Alpine, Eclipse sounds good, its just further down the road when you want to add like Satellite Radio, iPod, etc...go with Alpine, Clarion, or Pioneer.

Alpine CDA-7894. All black, ALL amber illumination (no green buttons, ALL amber), MP3, time correction, digital crossovers, V-Drive 60x4, loaded. It's a 2002 model, so it goes for cheap. I got mine, a mint one, for $200usd shipped.

I don't like the look of my Eclipse head unit much either, but the sound quality is worth it.

yeah that looks awesome. I really like the screen saver feature and the 3, 4 volts pre-outs. I wish I could buy that deck locally new! I'll keep looking around for a good deal.

My friend has an amber Alpine but during the day the buttons look green. Its only at night that they look amber.
