Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 vs CDT EF-61?

Well, Ive been doing some searching and it seems the CDT's beat out the Infinity's, but in the old threads mostly by kencopperwheat the CDT's that were being mentioned were the EF-61CFblahblah's. I see both the Perfect 6.1's and the EF-61(Sans CF) for $200. I hope I didnt just answer my own queston, but they are a little different. Can someone honestly tell me Im right? These speakers are also going into a cabrio, with all of its strange noises to go with it.

Something I also saw mentioned by Ken in one of the threads (http://www.r3vlimited.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14600) is the EF-61CFi/20 can be had for $230 on several websites. This was a long time ago but wouldnt the time gap increase the places that would carry the sets for cheaper? I barely found the EF-61's for 200 on sale at thezeb, let alone the CFi/20's for only 30 bux more :?: Anybody care to fill me in? :|

The CDTs are pretty badass. I really like them. You will, however, have to make some custom enclosures for them as they won't fit in the stock locations. They're pretty beefy. Definitely get the CF ones, you won't be disappointed... you'll need an amp that feeds em around 100 watts though.

I was thinking about doing something like this, it wont work? --
This picture actually belongs to ClavinZero. I saved it and hosted it though to avoid leeching his site. The CDT's have the same mounting depth as these kappa's, so I figure if done the same it would work OK there too. Unless the magnet too is much larger? I havent seen behind a kickpanel yet to see what the metal looks like. This is what he wrote about them - "holes cut in the kick panels and the bigger ring mounted in the stock screw holes. speakers mounted to those new rings. sounds badass." A little confusing to me but I may ask him later to clarify.
Those map pocket enclosures you made are sick but look like a ton of work.

As far as an amp goes I already was planning on one for the fronts. Im trying to go from stock to something respectable.

I only have the CDT CL-61's (Lower model than EF's) and I would probably say the EF's won't fit like those kappa's.

My guess is that even though the measured depth is the same, the magnet on the CDT's are probably bigger, so it's the edges of the magnet that will have clearance issues.

My CDT's are pretty beefy, and I needed 3/4 MDF rings to give them some room (and provide a good mounting surface)

Since I posted that I havent bought anything but also have been looking at the EF-61NEO's. Theyre basically the same but even thinner(2", or close to), which you'd think would also make the taper beind the mounting surface more abrupt giving it a better chance.

Thats what they look like apparently.

Yep, I pretty much was set on them after briefly sending a few emails to you :D. Im just waiting to get my paycheck deposited into my checking account at midnight tonight, and doing what I can on my suspension project first, then I'll tear into the audio portion by ordering mid/late next weekish. I may have some questions about amps or otherwise later, but thats not for now. Thanks.

I'd rather modify the car for good speakers, as opposed to downgrading speakers just to fit the car.

Also, those NEO's have the junk crossovers. I like my music very loud, and constantly ran into problems with those satnet-456 crossovers. Tweeter protection kicked in constantly, and the terminals were a constant PITA with large gauge wire.

These might be sold already, but I was going to pick these up, the aluminum tweeters killed the deal though, I only want silk.

What about getting the neo's and upgrading the X-overs later if i begin to dislike them? Wouldnt they be a direct swapparo? I like how Ken did his door panels but Ive already got a big enough project at hand on a schedule without thinking about custom fabricating speaker pods. I also sorta dont want to make one identical to his, that would be kinda, well yeah...too similar. I really do like them though :|

Justin, did you see my post about how I made them? It should be in the ICE section. I doubt most of the pictures are still up, but I still have them if you'd wanna see them. I could also answer some questions about it.

Also, the better Xovers are a direct swap so you could always upgrade to them later if you want.

Yep, sure did see how ya made them. Still looks pretty time consuming though. I studied that post considerably :). Unfortunately I often work late enough not to give me much time to 'glass and sometimes only have one weekend-day so my time is pretty limited. I am still planning on getting new suspension on my car, and a new headunit/amp/speakers etc which would probably eat up all my time right to the point when I should be leaving anyway. Right now I am working on this --
