Head Unit Criteria: What fits this bill?

Luke,
I might purchase the KDR900 and I noticed that the display is LCD. To my understanding the advantage of LCD display is that it can display more information and more lines. Aside from that, are there any more benefits over the traditional ones in terms of a headunit (ie. glare)?Comment

Well, since I can only make a solid recommendation on something I have lived with... and I only installed this in the wifeys car last night...let me say this: this is the best display I personally have ever seen in any car stereo, ever.Luke,

Why?
It reverses at night. Orange background with black letters during the day, black background with orange letters at night.
This feature kicks ass, but I have not any actual sunlight experience as I live in the PNW, and have not driven the car during the day, with actual sunlight.

So I pulled the trigger via Luke's advice. Just one question though, can I route the rear usb plug in with an Ipod cable and to hook up an Ipod as my portable HD and retrieve all my music from there?
I'm also thinking of maybe mounting the mic by drilling a hole in the panel that covers the sunroof controls and having it facing down. Would this be a bitch to wire up there?
Thanks again guys.Comment

Yes, it will turn your ipod into a storage device, or you can use a thumb drive/card reader. You cannot use anything that acts as a powered hub, yet some portable hard drives will work...but if you are gonna do a iPod, no worries.
You CANNOT mount the mic in any way that is "flush", as the noise cancelling circuitry will make it have feedback...and no one wants that. Maybe try some experiments first, maybe using cardboard or a little hunk of plastic, but every time I have mounted a mic like that it was squeal city.Comment

With my JVC I dangled a USB from a little void above the ashtray, below the OBC. You can't see it, but you can feel it.
As far as mic placement goes, I routed mine under the gauge cluster & out to the center of the steering wheel surround. I'll take a pic when I get a chance.Comment
